Lee Hosts Stanley Butler Shootout

  • Thursday, September 8, 2016

The annual Lee University Stanley Butler Shootout was staged at the Chatata Valley Golf Club on a beautiful sun-splashed Wednesday afternoon and the team of Gary Rominger, Harry Ledford, Matt Crowder and Keoni Vidrine were as hot as the temperature outside as they shot a sizzling 51 (20-under par) to take home the championship honors.

Following just a stroke behind with a 52 was the foursome of Jim Pemberton, Jerry McGaha, Ellis Haney and Jordon Whitmire. Prizes were also awarded for the eighth place team (59) of Kay McDaniel, George Nerren, Gary Riggins and Zach Riggins and the 12th place team (66) of Jim Yother, Mark Brew, Bobby McKinnon and Travis Godfrey.

The biggest hitter of the day was Whitmire who took home the men's longest drive honor on the sixth hole.
McDaniel hit the longest drive on the women's side on the 11th hole. Tom Maupin was the closest to the pin on the par 3, 154-yard 14th hole and Dennis Botts fired a dart in close on the par 3, 150-yard second hole.

"This was a great event to host in memory of a very special person to Lee Athletics—Dr. Stanley Butler," said Lee golf coach John Maupin.  "We are so appreciative to all those who supported and participated in the event.  We look forward to another great tournament next year."
