UTC Women Host Austin Peay In Tennis Opener

  • Thursday, January 12, 2017
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team opens its 2017 spring schedule on Monday, Jan. 16.  The Mocs are set to host Austin Peay at Noon (E.S.T.) at McCallie's Strang-Voges Tennis Center.

Head coach Chad Camper is entering his first spring duals campaign with the Mocs.  Two starters and five letter winners return from last year's team that went 15-8.  UTC is coming off a third place finish in Southern Conference action with a 5-2 mark in league play.

"The team is excited for our first match of the year," stated Camper.
"I feel we had a good fall season and have a lot of momentum going into the spring.

"Both teams will be knocking off some rust throughout the match, so mental toughness will play a big role. This match will need a whole team effort. Austin Peay is very strong and talented."

Junior Samantha Caswell went 14-5 at No. 3 singles last season and is the top returner.  Senior Rachele Gazzola was 13-13 in singles and 7-9 at No. 4.  The sophomore tandem of Mckenzie Barco and Sydney Patton was 3-1 in limited doubles action last spring.

Sophomore Delaney Edwards went 6-2 in singles last season, while transfer Caroline Hall had an 8-3 singles record in the fall.

A link to live scoring for the match will be available on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
