Brandy Spurgin-Floyd Appointed Magistrate To Replace Sharetta Smith

Attorney Brandy Spurgin-Floyd picked up six County Commission votes on Wednesday for the appointment to replace Sharetta Smith as magistrate.

She was supported by Chester Bankston, Sabrena Smedley, Randy Fairbanks, Greg Martin, Jim Fields and Tim Boyd.

Backing James Micah Guster were Commissioners Greg Beck, Joe Graham and Warren Mackey.

The magistrates set bonds and sign warrants from an office at the County Jail on Walnut Street.

Magistrate Smith is returning to her home state of Ohio.

The magistrates make $65,203 per year, with the chief magistrate (currently Randy Russell) getting $5,000 more.

They cannot practice criminal law, but can retain a civil practice.
