National Coalition Of 100 Black Women, Chattanooga Chapter, Inc. Set To Host Forums For Mayoral And City Council Races

  • Thursday, January 19, 2017
The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Chattanooga Chapter, Inc. invites the public to hear from the candidates vying for mayoral and city council seats.

Two separate forums will provide the public an opportunity to be introduced to participating candidates and be educated on their respective platforms.

The mayoral forum is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 30, 6 p.m. at Greater Tucker Missionary Baptist Church, 1115 North Moore Road in Chattanooga. The forum will be moderated by retired educator Edna Varner, who currently works for the Public Education Foundation and is heavily involved in community service.

“There are a number of issues affecting our coalition and members of the community, and we know the importance of taking the time to listen to each candidates stance,” said Beverly Johnson, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Chattanooga Chapter, Inc.
“Helping to better inform the public through these forums will allow community members to have a more educated opinion come March’s election.”

For those seeking to hold city council seats, a second forum will be held Monday, Feb. 6, 6 p.m. at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church, 1734 East Third St. in Chattanooga.  The forum will be moderated by Tom Griscom, former editor of the Chattanooga Times Free Press and who currently provides strategic communication consultations with a focus on education, utilities, and health care.

Candidates from both races have been extended invitations to participate. "As an organization interested in Chattanooga's future and actively engaged in the city's political and economic process, NCBW strongly encourages the community to attend both forums," officials said.
