Police said a man who is a validated member of the Black Gangster Disciples is facing carjacking charges.

Samuel Lebron Horton Jr., 27, of 7740 Holiday Hills Circle, is also charged with possessing a firearm with intent to go armed.

In an incident last Friday, an Hispanic woman said she was driving to the gas station to get some milk for her children when she stopped on E. 32nd Street to check on her children in the back seat.

She said, while doing so, she noticed two black males approaching her vehicle.

She said one of them hit the side of her vehicle. When she began to drive away, they broke out the passenger window of the vehicle.

The woman flagged down police and pointed toward a vehicle driving down Fourth Avenue. She said the suspects who attempted to carjack her were in the vehicle. She said they had just shot at her while she was waiting for police to arrive.

Police stopped a silver Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Brittany Mitchell with Horton in the passenger seat.

The woman identified Horton as one of the two men who tried to carjack her.

Police found a loaded Springfield handgun under the driver's seat. Ms. Mitchell said Horton had handed her the gun and told her to hide it.

Horton has a lengthy record including drugs, assault and weapons charges.
