Dr. Judy Tingley Named VP And CEO Of Erlanger Heart And Lung Institute

Officials with the Erlanger Health System announced the appointment of internationally recognized cardiovascular healthcare administrator, Judy E. Tingley, DNP, MPH, RN, AACC, as vice president and CEO of Erlanger’s new Heart and Lung Institute.  Dr. Tingley will assume her new role at the Chattanooga-based health system in February.  

Dr. Tingley previously served as chief operating officer of HeartSource a joint program of the Division’s of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.   As administrator for the Columbia HeartSource cardiovascular program, she applied her expertise in cardiology, cardiac surgery, patient care, quality improvement and data management to support business development for Columbia HeartSource and 15 affiliate programs, including community hospitals, newly formed hospital systems and large academic medical centers.   

In her new role at Erlanger, Dr. Tingley will lead the overall operations of the Institute, quality improvement, program development and clinical education efforts on behalf of Erlanger’s newly launched Heart and Lung Institute.  

“Dr. Tingley’s international reputation as a strategic planner and cardiovascular program leader will be instrumental as we continue to build Erlanger’s new Heart and Lung Institute into a world-class program,” said Erlanger President and CEO Kevin M. Spiegel, FACHE.     

Dr. Charles Campbell, chief of Cardiovascular Medicine and co-director of Erlanger’s Heart and Lung Institute, noted that Dr. Tingley’s “extensive experience in strategic planning, team building and performance improvement initiatives will be invaluable to Erlanger’s heart team, as well as to the health of this region.” 

Dr. Tingley serves as assistant professor of Clinical Nursing at Columbia University Medical Center and is an associate of the American College of Cardiology.  She currently serves as a member of the following professional society committees: American College of Cardiology’s Science and Quality Steering Committee, Clinical Policy Approval Committee, Surviving Acute MI Workgroup, Patient Navigator Program Task Force and the Society of Thoracic Surgeon’s Task Force on Quality Initiatives.  She is also the founding chairperson of the New York State STS Regional Data Management Workgroup. 

The new Erlanger executive earned her Masters in Public Health from The Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University and her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.  

With more than 20 years of healthcare experience, Dr. Tingley has co-authored articles for The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and contributed to numerous scientific and quality improvement publications.   

World-renowned robotics cardiac surgeon, Dr. Larry Shears, recently recruited as Erlanger’s chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and co-director of Erlanger’s Heart and Lung Institute, said he was “looking forward to the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Tingley in the development of Erlanger’s new world-class program and improving healthcare in our region.”
