Another snag has stalled the transfer by the county schools of the East Ridge High athletic complex to the city of East Ridge.
School board attorney Scott Bennett said the attorney for East Ridge asked for a brief delay.
He said East Ridge is concerned that, because the county schools retain certain rights regarding the property, that it might prevent the city from getting certain state grants.
Attorney Bennett said he should be able to find out quickly if that would be a problem.
He said East Ridge is counting on the grants as part of the funding to fix up the 12-acre complex and make the facilities available to the public.
David Testerman, East Ridge's representative on the school board, said it was "the hardest good think I've ever seen to make happen."
He said the deal is "99.9 percent done."
Mr. Testerman said it will yield a fieldhouse and baseball, softball and soccer fields, among other improvements "without costing the county a penny."
Attorney Bennett said, after the request by County Mayor Jim Coppinger, that Paul Parker, county real property manager, had reviewed the deal. He said Mr. Parker gave it his approval.
