Lee’s English Language Center To Offer Free English Classes

  • Friday, January 20, 2017

Lee University’s Department of Language and Literature will offer free English language classes to the community for the sixth year through the English Language Center beginning Thursday, Feb. 2.

The program will offer five levels of classes, ranging from beginner to advanced. Small class sizes facilitate individualized experiences for students, allowing instructors to provide personalized instruction and guidance. This model allows for one-on-one interactions which help develop the conversational skills of students.

The courses are led by student-instructors, all of whom are professionally trained in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) under the direction of Dr. Christopher Blake, associate professor of TESOL and Linguistics at Lee and director of the English Language Center.

The program reached its highest attendance ever this past semester with over 100 students from 17 different countries. According to Blake, some students who enrolled last semester with no English speaking ability were able to have simple conversations by the end of the semester.

Classes will take place on Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Walker Memorial Building. Free childcare will be provided for children ages 6-12 who attend with their parents.

For more information or to register, contact Blake at cblake@leeuniversity.edu or call 614-8223.
