Bernice Patricia Pyron, 89, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017.
She was born March 17, 1927. Ms. Pyron was educated in the Chattanooga Public Schools graduating from Howard High School. Ms. Pyron graduated from Clark College (Atlanta, GA) with a degree in French and later received certification in Elementary Education. While at Clark, Ms. Pyron became a member of Sigma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. After a successful teaching career in the Chattanooga Public Schools, she retired after 32 years of service.Ms. Pyron was a member of Bethlehem-Wiley United Methodist Church where she was active in several ministries until failing health prevented her attendance.
Ms. Pyron was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip Pyron, Sr. and Rita McBride Peyton Pyron (Chattanooga); brother and sister-in-law, Phillip, Jr. and Daisy Pyron (Washington, DC); a sister, Mrs. Barbara Hamilton (Queens, NY); and brother-in-law, Ollist H. Morris, Sr. (Chattanooga).
She is survived by a sister, Gloria P. Morris (Chattanooga) and a host of nieces, nephews and other family.
Funeral service for Ms. Pyron will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home with Pastor Willie Kitchens, Jr. officiating.
Members of the Chattanooga Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will assemble at 10 a.m. to perform the Omega Omega Ritual.
