Tullahoma Nips East Hamilton For Central Mat Title

The annual Central Invitational wrestling tournament was cancelled two weeks ago by the threat of inclement weather, but they were able to get it in on Saturday and it was a battle to the wire for the team championship.

Luke Champion was the individual winner at 285 pounds and it was his victory that lifted the Tullahoma Wildcats to the team title as they finished the day-long event with 166 points, just edging the East Hamilton Hurricanes by a half-point.

Walker Valley was third with 150 points while Rhea County was fourth with 100 and host Central fifth with 96.

Champion was one of six winners for Tullahoma.  Other teammates who finished first included Will Moran at 113, Luke Price at 120, Aaron Kelly at 138, Brenden Adkins at 170 and Alex Pursley at 195.

East Hamilton had three champs, including Te’Nario Thomas at 106, Cade Meeks at 126 and Grant Lundy at 132.

Jay Graham (152) and Garrett Smith (220) won for Rhea County while Central’s two champs included Isaac Coffman at 145 and Alonzo Heyward at 160.  The other individual winner was Whitwell’s Daniel Mikel at 182.

While Tullahoma had six winners, Cal Rogers added a second-place finish at 106 while East Hamilton went home with 10 medalists.

Elijah Vance (113), Kevin Siniard (152) and Mathew Sailors (182) all finished second for the Hurricanes while Tyler Bayless was third at 160.  Seth Carpenter (120), Liam Golden (145) and David Bohn (220) all finished fourth.
