Heights Sweeps Legacy In Games With SEC Overtones

Hawks Claim 73-63 Win; Lady Hawks Romp 67-37

Hamilton Heights swept a basketball doubleheader from visiting Legacy Charter School from Greenville, South Carolina, on Saturday. The Hawks’ rare home games had a distinct hint of Southeastern Conference hoops to them.

Hamilton Heights notched a 73-63 victory over Legacy Charter in a game that pitted the Hawks’ Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Kentucky signee) against Legacy’s Nic Claxton (Georgia).

In the girls’ game, Jazmine Massengill (Tennessee commitment) helped the Lady Hawks defeat Legacy 67-37 with Lady Vols coach Holly Warlick in attendance.

Alexander poured in a game-high 27 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists as the Hawks improved to 20-5 on the season.

Claxton, who will join the Bulldogs next season in Athens, Georgia, led Legacy with 20 points.

The Hawks, ranked 19th by MaxPreps, also got solid efforts in the win by two other Division I signees.

Therren Shelton-Szmidt (Middle Tennessee) scored 18 points and Nickeil Alexander-Walker had 16 points and seven rebounds. Kaosi Ezeagu pulled down eight rebounds.

James Moore tossed in 15 points and Rayshawn Neal added 14 for Legacy (14-6).

In the girls’ game, Elizabeth Balogun led the way with 24 points and Amber Hunt added 21, pushing her past the 1,000-point career mark for the No. 8 Lady Hawks.

Massengill scored two points and had nine rebounds. Kamilla Cardosa had a team-high 14 boards for the Lady Hawks (19-6).

Niya Gaudelock led Legacy (7-5) with 15 points.
