Mark Steven Treuchet
An investigation by special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the arrest of an Alabama man in a shooting death that occurred last fall at the Bradley County landfill.
At the request of 10th District Attorney General Steve Crump, last Sept.
8 TBI special agents began investigating a shooting death that occurred that day at the landfill. It is located at 282 Natures Trail in McDonald.
Jeremy Headley, 24, was found dead as the result of a shooting. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that led them to Mark Steven Treuchet, 54, as the individual responsible for the death of Headley.
The Bradley County Grand Jury on Wednesday returned an indictment charging Treuchet, of Pleasant Grove, Ala., with one count of first-degree murder.
In the early morning hours Sunday, Treuchet was taken into custody after turning himself in to a TBI special agent. He was booked into the Bradley County Jail and is being held without bond pending arraignment.
Headley had been the object of an intense manhunt, but he had still not been apprehended when he ventured onto the landfill property.
He then encountered Treuchet, who was an employee of a construction firm opening up a new area of the landfill.
Personnel at the landfill were aware of the manhunt. The landfill was shut down for several hours as a precaution, but it had reopened at the time of the shooting.
Headley got into trouble in Meigs County when he and another man were seen leaving a known drug house, authorities said.
The pair took off after officers had stopped the vehicle and saw guns inside. The men had not been able to provide any ID.
The ensuing chase led into Hamilton County.
The driver intentionally hit a Meigs County patrol car and also struck a second Meigs County patrol vehicle. A Hamilton County Sheriff's vehicle also wrecked during the pursuit.
The chase ended in Bradley County when driver Daniel Warren wrecked the SUV on Bancroft Road. Warren was quickly taken into custody, but Headley got away.
Tracking dogs, drones and a helicopter were used to try to locate Headley.
