Chattanooga National Cemetery with the wreaths
Wreaths Across America is a national program that started at Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C. with a simple green wreath with a red bow placed at each soldier's headstone to show the nation's appreciation for their sacrifice. This is done the week before Christmas.
The movement has spread across the nation. Chattanooga National Cemetery placed 8,000 wreaths on soldier's graves. People from all walks of life came to help get the wreaths in place. Scouts, ROTC units, vets, SAR, DAR and families all across Hamilton County helped to get them in place. They were a beautiful sight as people drove by.
The wreaths needed to be removed at the end of the season. Willing hands came to the cemetery on a dreary morning to gather them up and put the cemetery back to its pristine condition. Members of the Nancy Ward and Chief John Ross were there to help with the effort.
