Senator Bob Corker on Tuesday joined a majority of committee members in voting to favorably report the nomination of Governor Nikki Haley to serve as U.S. smbassador to the United Nations to the full Senate for consideration.

“Governor Haley is a fierce advocate for American interests,” said Senator Corker. “As South Carolina's Governor, Nikki Haley is a proven leader. I believe she has the instincts that will help her achieve reform. Having run a state government, she has dealt with tough management and budgetary issues. I believe that experience will serve her well, and I strongly support her nomination.”

Complete text of Senator Corker’s opening statement at the business meeting is below:

“Today we will consider the nomination of Nikki Haley to be the next U.S. Representative to the United Nations and to be the Representative to the General Assembly of the UN.

“Governor Haley is a fierce advocate for American interests. All of us who have met with her have seen that.

“I believe she knows the United Nations needs reform and change. We have a right to demand value for our money. I think our nominee has said she will demand that.

“Experience shows that when we have strong U.S. leadership at the U.N. we can get results. As South Carolina's governor, Nikki Haley is a proven leader.

“I believe she has the instincts that will help her achieve reform. Having run a state government, she has dealt with tough management and budgetary issues.

“I believe that experience will serve her well, and I strongly support her nomination.”
