Corker, Alexander Vote To Confirm Nikki Haley As U.S. Ambassador To The United Nations

  • Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Senators Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander on Tuesday voted to confirm Governor Nikki Haley (R-S.C.) as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

The Senate voted 96 to 4 in favor of her nomination this afternoon. Earlier in the day, Senator Corker joined members of the committee in voting to favorably report her nomination to the full Senate for consideration.

I'm pleased to support Governor Nikki Haley as our ambassador to the United Nations,” said Senator Corker.

“The United Nations is at a place where we need a real driven person who cares about our national interests but also has the ability to break through the clutter and pursue reform. She has worked with legislators to bring people together to make that happen in her own state, and I’m glad she will be confirmed overwhelmingly as our U.N. ambassador.”

Senator Alexander said, “Nikki Haley has been a strong leader for South Carolina during some very tough times – the tragic Charleston shooting and the devastating floods in 2015, and Hurricane Matthew in 2016. I’m confident Governor Nikki Haley will bring that same leadership to her work advocating for U.S. interests as Ambassador to the United Nations, and I am pleased the Senate voted to confirm her today.”
