A couple is facing burglary charges for breaking into a home in East Ridge.

Taken to jail were Matthew Teeters, 25, of 111 1st Street, Rossville, along with Heather Ellis.

At approximately 10:37 p.m.

on Wednesday, police responded to a suspicious person call at 4011 Ringgold Road.  An unidentified caller informed police that the occupants in a white car had been allegedly involved in narcotic activity.

Police arrived on the scene and located a 2004 Hyundai Accent parked in the lot.  Police determined that the displayed tag did not match the vehicle in which it was affixed to so contact was made with the occupants.

Upon initial contact, police observed Teeters noticeably concealing something in his left hand.  When asked to reveal his hands, police observed him drop several white-colored pills in the driver-side floorboard.  Two of the “prescription-only” pills had imprint “IG 276”.

Police removed and detained Teeters for further investigation and the passenger was identified as Heather Ellis.  Moments later, police received information that the pair may have been recently been involved with a residential burglary at a house on Greenslake Road.  Units were dispatched to the address and discovered that two doors had been forcibly entered by utilizing an unknown tool.

Ms. Ellis stated they had been at the address, claiming it was where her father resided. Teeters denied having ever been at the residence.

A witness told police that he had personally observed the white vehicle and both occupants at the house. The witness later positively identified them and the vehicle.

Police discovered two tire tools within the interior compartment of the vehicle which were later compared to the tool impressions left on the door jambs at the burglary location.  Policedetermined that the tool impressions matched the size and profile of the tire tools found in the interior of the vehicle.

Police assisted the victim with locating her prescription of Hydroxyzine HCI at the top of the stairway which matched the imprint [IG 276] of those pills found in the possession of Teeters.

The victim stated that neither Teeters nor Ms. Ellis had permission to be on her property.

Both parties were arrested and transported to the Hamilton County Jail.
