President Trump As Protector

  • Sunday, January 29, 2017

It produces a warm, fuzzy feeling having a new president whose number one priority is looking out for all of us.  People are coming illegally across our borders, Islamic terrorists are coming in on flights from around the world, hostile and devious governments best us in every negotiation, and even our very own made-in-America companies have turned us out to move elsewhere for ever greater profits and left our factories to rust and the home folks abandoned to fend for themselves.

Enter President Donald Trump!  How can you not love a guy whose number one priority is looking out for us and our best interests?  Think of it, you, me and America first! At last.  That is a mighty, mighty tempting bandwagon to board.  Please look with me at these excerpts from his inaugural speech:

"We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies and destroying our jobs. (APPLAUSE) Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength. I will fight for you with every breath in my body and I will never ever let you down.

"There should be no fear.  We are protected and we will always be protected. We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement. And most importantly, we will be protected by God."

How do you not love this guy?  He holds high the flag as well as almighty God while promising to protect you and me, our country, our jobs and our way of life.

Though I'm almost as old as President Trump, and a heck of a lot poorer, I may be better read.  He tempts me with that marvelous bandwagon, but I remember reading somewhere "Lead us not into temptation...".  Who was it said that? (Joking).

I remember reading, also, the words of the renowned Sinclair Lewis: "When fascism comes to America it will be draped in a flag and carrying a cross."   And, I remember reading these words, too: "This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector." Plato

I have no wisdom of my own.  It's all borrowed from others.  Perhaps I will hop on that bandwagon of devotion, patriotism and protection.  I'm sure as shoot tempted. But first, I have to find a way to lay aside those cherished wisdoms of Jesus, Sinclair and Plato.  Soon as I do, I'll join you.
