UTC's McLean Selected SoCon Player of the Month

Chattanooga Mocs senior Tre’ McLean is the December Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Month. McLean led the Mocs to a 5-1 mark defeating ULM (79-52), Marshall (96-85), Tennessee Wesleyan (107-65), Jacksonville State (73-57) and Western Carolina (64-48).
 
He averaged 16.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game shooting 49.3 percent (34-69) from the field including a 47.6 percent clip from 3pt range (10-21). The Charleston, S.C., native also made 82.6 percent of his free throws (19-23).
 
McLean was the Dec.
13 SoCon Player of the Week. He set new career highs for points (35), steals (5), FG made (11), FT made (10) and attempted (13) in the win over the Thundering Herd. He tied his season-high for rebounds with 10 against Jacksonville State.
 
It’s the first player of the month honor for a Moc since Casey Jones who claimed back-to-back awards in January and February of 2015. Z. Mason (Jan. 2014) and Ty Patterson (Dec. 2009) have the other two monthly honors in school history since it was started in the 2004-05 season.
 
Chattanooga returns to McKenzie Arena tonight against Wofford for the start of a three-game home stand. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m., with Furman (Sat., 5 p.m.) and The Citadel (Wed., 7 p.m.) to follow.
