Four Chattanooga-area volleyball teams that have earned spots in the 2017 TSSAA state volleyball championships will be in action on Tuesday in Murfreesboro. The tournament will conclude on Thursday with title matches in all six divisions.

Sale Creek, East Hamilton, Signal Mountain and Cleveland and Baylor are area representatives in this year’s tourney that will be played at three sites – Siegel and Blackman high schools and Middle Tennessee State University’s Murphy Center.

Baylor’s Lady Red Raiders could be the fifth local team in the tourney field if they beat Hutchison in a Division II-AA win-or-go-home match on Saturday.

Sale Creek (36-12) will face Berean Christian in its Class 1A opener at 12:30 (CT) at MTSU. The Lady Panthers are making their second straight trip to state.

In Class 2A, East Hamilton (20-3) is scheduled to take on Sullivan South at 9:30 a.m. at 9:30 a.m. at Siegel. The Lady Hurricanes, returning to state for the first time since 2012, have won six straight matches.

Signal Mountain (41-7) drew Knoxville Catholic at 2 p.m., also at Siegel High. The Lady Eagles are appearing in their fifth straight tournament.

Cleveland (33-15) returns to Murfreesboro for the second straight year – the only state appearances in the program’s history – and will battle Brentwood at 12:30 p.m. at Blackman.
