The UTC women’s soccer team couldn’t find the net Sunday afternoon, battling Mercer to a scoreless draw at Bear Field in Macon, Ga.
“Hard fought point on the road at a solid Mercer team,” Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said.
“I thought we created some quality chances and were unlucky not to take one of them.”
The Mocs best opportunity came in the 61st minute when freshman Chloe Arnold was able to get Mercer’s keeper Jordyn Ebert out of the net. Her shot from inside 10 yards banged off the left post.
At the end of regulation, the Mocs defense held off the Bears who had a pair of corner kick opportunities in the final two minutes. Chattanooga also blocked a shot to keep it scoreless. UTC keeper Melia Correa made two strong saves in the last minute of the first overtime.
“The urgency we showed defensively towards the end of the match was fantastic,” McKinney said. “the spirit and fight we displayed was great.”
Chattanooga had 12 shots on the day with three on goal. Jordan Mueller and Alex Scearce each had three shots for the Mocs and Anna Moore added two. Correa had 10 saves in the match, two shy of her career-high and recorded her third shutout of the season.
Mercer’s Isabel Rothschadl led the Bears with a game-high six shots while Ally Fordham and Valeria Bermeo had four shots each.
The Mocs close out the regular season next weekend at Finley Stadium. The Mocs will host league-leader Furman Friday night. On Sunday, Chattanooga will bid farewell to its six seniors in its match against Wofford. All fans in attendance will receive a “White Out” T-shirt.
