Held Long Careers With The U.S. Army, TVA, And Brewer-Taylor Associates

Charles E. Brewer, 83, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017.

He was born in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville Central High School. Charles received his BS degree from the University of Tennessee in 1956 and his MBA from the University of Alabama in 1966.  Upon entering the U.S. Army in 1956, he was stationed at Redstone Arsenal, Al., and was assigned to the Army Ballistic Missile Agency, where they worked on the development of Missile Weapons Systems.  Later he transferred in the Marshall Space Flight Center, when NASA was formed in 1960 and he worked on the Saturn-Apollo moon landing program. Charles retired from the U.S. Army (Reserve) as a Colonel in 1994, after 34 years of service.

In 1974, he was employed with TVA in the Nuclear Power Plant Construction Program.  After retirement from the Federal Civil Service in 1991, he became a partner in the firm of Brewer-Taylor Associates, specializing in training and certifying certain federal employee specialties.  He was a resident of Chattanooga for the past 43 years and attended Ridgedale, Ooltewah and East Ridge Baptist Churches.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice J. (Jack) and Gladys Whaley Brewer.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Skelton Brewer; cousins, Larry Craig, Larry Ogle, Richard Brewer, Margaret Gilbert, Pat Hobby, Lloyd Earl Brewer, Benny Brewer, Glenda Roberts, Rena Davis and Nancy Carrell; two aunts, Delores Brewer and Lorraine Brewer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Doug Plumlee  officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Fl. 32256.
