Blood Assurance On Standby To Help Partners In Las Vegas Area

  • Monday, October 2, 2017

Blood Assurance is on standby to send blood to Las Vegas area hospitals in the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. The shooting occurred on Oct. 1 and left at least 58 people killed and more than 500 injured.

In the wake of the shooting, Blood Assurance has been in touch with local Las Vegas blood suppliers and learned that they have enough blood on hand to support the local trauma centers and are shipping in additional type O red blood cells and platelets to replenish inventory at this time.

“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this tragic event,” said Jay Baumgardner, director of marketing and community relations at Blood Assurance.

“Blood Assurance stands ready to send aid to our Las Vegas partners if they need our help.”

Blood Assurance recently sent blood to areas affected by Hurricane Harvey and is always on standby to help areas in need.

To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 18 years old (16 and 17 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids — avoiding caffeine — and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.

To schedule an appointment at a donor center or blood drive near you, visit www.bloodassurance.org, call 800-962-0628 or text ‘BAGIVE ‘ to 444999.
