Gerald Kevin “Jerry” Furland
Lieutenant Commander Gerald Kevin “Jerry” Furland, 62, of Chattanooga, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at his home.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1954, in Rockford, Illinois. Mr. Furland received a BS in Political Science History. Lieutenant Commander Furland was a retired Naval intelligence officer. While serving his country, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George W. Bush. He earned numerous other medals during his military career.
He was a partner in the family business Cardinal Realty in Chattanooga. He was a prolific musician and songwriter and was a member of the Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan; mother, Sue; and brother, Jim.
Survivors include his significant other, Celia; children, Jessica, Amelia, Andrew, and Jacob; grandchildren, Kellen and Donovan; father and stepmother, Don and Linda; brother, John; sister-in-law, Donna; three nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Harold Buntin and Commander Jim Bass, USN, ret. officiating. Military honors will be provided.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home, however, the family will have a celebration of Jerry’s life at the Elks Lodge following the graveside service.
