Richard “Eddie” Gilreath, 68, of Chickamauga, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017.

Eddie was an avid deer hunter who loved the outdoors and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Gilreath and Josie Sweet Gilreath; sisters, Betty Parker and Sherry Neal; brothers, Tommy Gilreath, Frank Gilreath, Ravin Gilreath, and Raymond Gilreath.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Surrett Gilreath; daughters, Melissa (David) Estus and Amy (Greg) Barrett; grandchildren, Brooke (Rusty) Massey, Tripp Cheatham, Tyler Barrett, Bailey Arthur, Becca Cheatham, and Madison Barrett; great grandchildren, Kenna Massey, Eli Massey, Paizley Cheatham, Ayden Barrett, Kruz Tucker, Bella Barrett, and Bryer Cheatham; sister, Lucille O’Donald; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Will Bradley officiating. Interment will be in Old Antioch Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Barry Smith, Don Smothers, Leroy Cross, Casey King, Bobby Cheatham,  and Joe Arthur. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Millican and Johnny Smith.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Petty, Geneva Romine (Summerville)

Geneva Romine Petty, age 84, of Knollwood Circle, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018, morning in a Rome hospital.  A native of Calhoun, Ga., she was born to the late Thomas Levi and Willie Mae Bynum on Nov. 16, 1933.  Mrs. Petty was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Jerry Nathan Petty, on Jan. 3, 2012.  ... City Council Considering New 2-Year $600,000 Contract With Father To The Fatherless

The Salvation Army is at capacity with its cold weather shelter at 60 and the Community Kitchen has 108 so far in the cold weather shelter, officials said Tuesday night.  Kimberly George said, "This is the most the two of us have had so far."
