Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner Held At American Legion In Dalton

  • Tuesday, November 14, 2017

The Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner will be held on Thursday, Nov. 23, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the American Legion, 1118 North Glenwood Ave. in Dalton.  It is sponsored by Harvest Outreach Ministries.

This is an annual Thanksgiving Day program to feed the homeless and less fortunate in the Dalton area.  There will be plenty of food and Gospel singing.  Scheduled to sing are Debby Faye East, Shelia Reed, Craig Kirk Tyndall, Allen Coleman and others.

This traditional Thanksgiving day dinner has been in existence now for about 31 years with this ministry.  It started feeding hot meals to the homeless and secured a kitchen which was set up like a restaurant. As time moved along it began enlarging its work to an open community kitchen, letting anyone come and eat.  In this organizers found many that were going hungry in and around their doorsteps that they could not ignore the great need.  So Harvest Outreach was birthed.

Harvest Outreach has provided a walk-in homeless shelter for men, keeping 32 every day, and a walk-in homeless shelter for women and children, keeping 22 per day.  They have also provided homeless kitchen feeding those in the streets and supplied clothing and personal hygiene items. They have also had a walk-in facility for medical care and screening daily.

Officials said many have been saved and led to know Jesus, though love they found "someone who cared".

This is a free event and welcome to all to come and share good food and fellowship.
