Loretta Barnes, 80, of Chattanooga went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 18, 2017.

Loretta is survived by her daughter, Jill (Greg) Melton; daughter, Sherri Barnes; grandson, Logan Melton; brothers, Gene Dean of Chattanooga and Herman “Pap” Dean of Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews.

Loretta was born in Culberson, N.C., to the late Herman and Hazel Dean, but spent her childhood years in Ducktown, Tn. She was a graduate of Ducktown High School where she was a cheerleader and a basketball player.  Loretta was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church for 32 years where she had served as a choir member and preschool teacher. She was an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan, following football and basketball each season.  Loretta retired in 2002 from a long career at Signal Mountain Cement Company.

Loretta’s passion was her family.  She was the best friend of her daughters, Jill and Sherri, her son (by marriage) Greg, and her grandson, Logan.  Each of them had a special relationship with Loretta, but none was more precious to her than her relationship with her “Handsome Devil” Logan.  Loretta was also “mom” to countless others.  She was a precious lady who touched the lives of many around her.

A Celebration of Life will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, at Silverdale Baptist Church in the Sanctuary. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements are by the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
