Albert Lowery Gaines, Sr., 97, of Hixson, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017, in a local hospital.
He was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Selma, Al. to the late Drummond and Rubye Gaines.
Mr. Gaines was a member of Hixson United Methodist Church. He was a World War II United States Army veteran. He was a nuclear engineer and retired from Combustion Engineering after 25 years of service.
His wife, Dorothy Gaines preceded him in death.
Survivors include his sons, Al (Jean) Gaines, Jr. of Lafayette, New Jersey, John (Karen) Gaines of Thornton, Colorado, Richard (Barbara) Gaines of Sandy Hook, Connecticut, and Bill Stuart (Betty) Gaines of Harrison, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; and close friend, Julia Cushman of Hixson.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. in the North Chapel with Dr. Mark Cushman officiating.
