Ruth Hall Moore, 102, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017 at a local health care facility. She was the widow of Hugh J. Moore, to whom she was married for 72 years.
A native of Knoxville and a 1933 graduate of Knoxville High School, she had resided in Chattanooga since the mid-1930s when her husband was transferred from Norris Dam to Chickamauga Dam with the TVA. Mrs. Moore had been employed in sales by Miller's in Knoxville and by Miller Bros. Co. in Chattanooga. During World War II she volunteered with the Red Cross, knitting for troops overseas.
She lived in Chattanooga or Knoxville for all of her life except for 1942-46 when she moved to Norfolk, Va. to be with her husband, who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
For more than 70 years she has been a member of First Baptist Church (Golden Gateway). She was active in the Mary Class, and served as class president several times. She volunteered with the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and she also volunteered for 11 years at Sunnyside School, which both of her sons attended. She was proud that she and her husband had been able to send both sons to McCallie, and said - even this month - "you can't take a good education away from someone."
Mrs. Moore enjoyed travel with her family. She always said that when she climbed Mt. LeConte in the Smoky Mountains with her father in the early 1920s, "the man at the top said I was one of the youngest people ever to make the climb." But most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and, just recently, great-grandmother.
She is survived by two sons, Charles E. Moore and Hugh J. Moore, Jr. (Jean), of Chattanooga; two granddaughters, Lela M. Moore (Steven Aglione) of Brooklyn, New York, and Sarah G. Moore (Richard Sellers), of Sherman, Texas; and one great-grandson, Edmund Moore ("Ned") Aglione, of Brooklyn, New York.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Herbert Hall and Dr. Robert Hall of Knoxville; Jim (Rosan) Hall of Marietta, Ga.; Gina (Saib) Saour, Richard Hall, Rebecca Hall, and Mrs. Jim (Nancy) Hall, all of Houston, Tx., and Fred Hall; Robert (Joyce) Baker of Mobile, Al.; Kingsley Baker, Jr. (Lynn) of Dallas, Tx., and Dr. Robert (Pat) Jones of San Jose, Ca.
Mrs. Moore was predeceased by her parents, James A. and Minerva Hodges Hall, both of Knoxville; and her two brothers, James H. Hall, of Houston, Tx., and Herbert Hall, of Knoxville.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of First Baptist Church (Golden Gateway) on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 1 p.m., with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry officiating. Visitation will be in the church parlor before the service, beginning at 11:30 a.m. She will be buried with her husband in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
