Perjury Charges Dismissed By Judge Against Gatlinburg Detective

  • Tuesday, November 28, 2017

Perjury charges have been dismissed against Gatlinburg detective Rodney Burns.

Criminal Court Judge Tom Greenholtz took the action in a 25-page opinion.

He said Hamilton County Juvenile Court did not have the authority to hold an initial hearing in the case.

The case moved to Criminal Court after that hearing by Judge Rob Philyaw.

Detective Burns had investigated the case in which three Ooltewah High basketball players were raped with a pool cue by older players.

It happened at a Gatlinburg cabin.

Detective Burns was later indicted on two felony counts of aggravated perjury.

He filed suit against District Attorney Neal Pinkston, who brought the charges against him.
