Covenant Volleyball Draws Birmingham Southern In NCAA Tournament

The Covenant volleyball team will open the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, against Birmingham Southern. The match will take place at the Woodruff PE Center, on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, at 12:30 p.

It will be the second meeting this year between Covenant (24-7) and Birmingham Southern (20-8). The Panthers defeated the Lady Scots in four sets on Sept. 2, in Birmingham. Thursday's winner will face either Berry or Hanover on Friday, at 4:30 p.m. The region championship is set for Saturday, at 7 p.m.

Covenant is making its second-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, with both coming in the last three seasons. The Lady Scots are currently riding a program-record 16-match win streak. Covenant's last loss was Sept. 28 at Emory.

Driver Crashes Into Forgotten Child Fund Building

T he Forgotten Child Fund building on East Main Street suffered an estimated $70,000 when a car crashed into it early Sunday morning. The driver in the wreck was arrested. Officials of the fund had to shut off electricity and water to the building. The fund provides presents to needy children at Christmas. (click for more)
