CHI Memorial has acquired the former Hutcheson Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe with plans for expanded medical care.
The facility, after going into bankruptcy, has been operated by the Cornerstone Medical Center for the past two years.
CHI Memorial is acquiring Cornerstone from its owner, Valorbridge of Atlanta.
CHI Memorial has been working with Cornerstone for the past several months, officials said.
It will be known as CHI Memorial Georgia.
The Chattanooga-based hospital has also acquired the former Hutcheson on the Parkway, which is on Battlefield Parkway.
Senator Jeff Mullis, who noted that he was born at Hutcheson, called it "a great day for the North Georgia community."
He said with enhanced medical services it will help boost North Georgia economic development.
Larry Schumacher, CHI Memorial CEO, said a significant portion of CHI patients come from North Georgia. He said they no longer will have to travel into Chattanooga to receive the services.
