Helping Those Left Behind

  • Saturday, December 16, 2017

All year long a small group of sweet little elderly ladies do all they can to help the forgotten Gold Star wives and mothers of our servicemen and women that died and left them barely hanging on with an embarrassingly small subsistence check.  It is even worse at Christmas when the pain of not having enough to enjoy a Christmas dinner, much less small gifts for even children, makes this a sad time, not a joyous season for them.

I know there are so many worthy charities out there, but I have watched this small group of women who live on modest means offer a small donated TV and other donated items at their meeting for one purpose.  To raise money to fill Christmas baskets for as many families as they can.  I checked with them yesterday, and donated goods and funds are not coming in like they need, and some families may be left out.

Some companies have not responded this year, but companies like Little Debbie always helps and a few other companies and grocers as well.  I have seen this small band of elderly ladies work tirelessly for hours in the back room of a kind church to fill the boxes for what looks like this year may only be 25 or so families.

My wife and I feel so good inside when we see what the money they receive does for those in dire need here at Christmas. I sincerely ask you to help with this selfless group of elderly ladies that do all they can to make this a brighter holiday for some in our community.
