A 73-year-old man who was involved in a wreck on Fourth Avenue over two weeks ago has died.
On Nov. 28, at approximately 10:02 p.m., the Chattanooga Police Traffic Division were notified of an officer involved collision at 3100 Fourth Ave.
Chattanooga Police were responding with emergency equipment activated (lights and siren) to a car fire with possible entrapment. Chattanooga Police officers were traveling south on Fourth Avenue approaching E. 31st Street.
A civilian was travelling eastbound on E. 31st Street, driving a 2005 Saturn Ion with one passenger. The driver of the Saturn proceeded through the Fourth Avenue intersection without coming to a stop, failing to yield to both police and the posted stop sign.
A collision occurred in the intersection which resulted in both the officers inside the patrol car being transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver and passenger of the Saturn refused medical treatment on scene from Hamilton County EMS.
Approximately two weeks later - last Saturday - the Chattanooga Police Department was notified by the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's office that the driver of the Saturn, George Walker, went to the hospital two days after the collision and had passed away at a later date.
