Mr. Melvin Eugene York, 87, of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, November 30, 2017. Mr. York was born in Ider, Al. to his parents, Abner and Nettie Mae Mullins York. Melvin proudly served his country during the Korean War. After returning home, he worked for U.S. Pipe before retiring, with over 42 years. Mr. York was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the Lookout Valley Baptist Church.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Abner and Nettie York and a host of brothers.
Survivors include his precious wife of over 68 years, Hazel York; children, David York and Jimmy (Iva) York; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Amanda) York and Joshua York; great-grandchildren, Gwen, Ellie and Magdalene York; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday Dec. 2 from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow Monday Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Lakewood West Cemetery.
