Red Bank Gets Extension On Grant For Sidewalk Work; Christmas Trees Vandalized At Kid’s Corner Park

Red Bank has planned for sidewalks from Newberry Street to Ashland Terrace along Dayton Boulevard. Earlier this year, the city received a TDOT grant to supplement the cost. The work has not progressed as expected, said City Manager Randall Smith at the commission meeting Tuesday night. So that the grant would not expire, an extension was requested from TDOT and granted. The Red Bank commissioners voted to approve the amendment extending the time for the work so the project can continue.

The commissioners also approved a resolution to affirm the city’s commitment and continued progress for the adoption and implementation of a plan to make all city-owned facilities American with Disabilities (ADA) compliant.

Signature cards for the city’s various bank accounts have had the name of Red Bank’s previous chief of police. A vote Tuesday night will allow the name to be replaced with that of the new Police Chief Robert Simpson. It was noted that either the mayor of vice mayor’s signature will also be required on the checks.

The city manager said that leaf pick-up is on schedule. Public works is currently south of Appian Way and heading south. If residents want them removed faster, leaves can be bagged and the city will pick them up right away.

Mr. Smith said the town had filled Kid’s Corner Park with Christmas trees and decorations, all of which have been vandalized. He is aware of what happened and he said that the city is prepared to work toward preventing that from happening in the future.

The next Red Bank commission meeting falls on Jan. 2. That day is a holiday for city employees and city hall will be closed. The commissioners voted to cancel the meeting that night and any business will be carried over to the second regularly scheduled meeting of the month on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
