Fletcher Bright, Chattanooga business leader and well-known musician, died at his Lookout Mountain home surrounded by his family on Christmas Day.

He was 86.

He began working with his father, Gardner Bright, in the real estate business in 1953. He built the Fletcher Bright firm into one of the leading real estate companies in the Southeast. His father went into real estate in Chattanooga in 1927.

Mr. Bright was a long-time member of the Dismembered Tennesseans bluegrass band.

He was the mainstay of the annual Three Sisters Bluegrass Festival at Ross's Landing.

Mr. Bright began playing music with several McCallie School classmates just after the close of World War II. For many years, he piloted the group to gigs in his corporate Cessna Citation.

Through the years, he continued to hone his craft of playing the fiddle - taking lessons from some of the masters and teaching others the art himself.

Senator Bob Corker said, “Like so many he knew, Fletcher had a big impact on me as a young man, and throughout life. A gentleman, a pilot, a musician, and a businessman, he kept a balance and a steadiness that made you feel calm in times of stress. We will all miss him and hope to carry some of him with us to share with others.”

Arrangements will be announced by Wann Funeral Home.
