Lifelong Chattanoogan Held Long Career As A Sales Coordinator

Dorothea Mae Owens, 94, of Chattanooga, passed away quietly on December 7, 2017.

She was born December 6, 1923, in Chattanooga to the late Luther and Bessie Mae Owens.
A native of Chattanooga, Dorothea was a proud graduate of Chattanooga Central High School class of 1941. She was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church, now known as Crosspath, and a former member of East Lake Baptist Church. She was active in the church having taught the single adult Sunday School class and shared her love of singing as part of the church choir. Dorothea was a sales coordinator who achieved 45 continuous years of full-time work and an additional 11 years part-time work at the Chattanooga Baptist Book Store, later known as Lifeway Christian Store.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Bessie Mae Owens; sister, Flora Owens Goins; brother, George Owens and his wife Billie; nieces, Sandra Owens and Ann Owens Mathews and her husband, Quinton.

She is survived by her niece, Bess (Randal) Dillard; and nephew, Carl (Joan) Owens; great-nieces, Christie (Davy) Horsman, and Sandy Owens of Chattanooga, Whitney (Rob) Alexander of Atlanta, Andrea (Ray) Ramirez of Fair Lawn, NJ, Pamela (Rob) Cain, of Knoxville; and great nephew, Paul (Katherine) Dillard of Knoxville; eight great-grandnephews and grandnieces; and numerous cousins and countless friends.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. on  Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Beautiful Greenwood at 1954 Greenwood Road. Following burial, family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. with a memorial service at 1 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with Dr. Ronnie Mitchell and Reverend William Jacques officiating.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga, especially her loving caregivers, Cheree and Elizabeth, and her social worker Faedra, and to the staff of the Manor House for their loving and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga 37416.
