Glenn Alfred Wheeler, Sr. 77, of High Point, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 12, 2017.
Mr. Wheeler was born and raised in south Chattanooga and remained a resident of the Chattanooga area residing in the High Point community of Walker County, at the time of his death.
Glenn attended Kirkman Technical High School in Chattanooga. He later attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
In March 1958 he joined the U.S. Army and returned home in February 1961. He was primarily stationed state side in Anchorage, Al.
Mr. Wheeler’s work experiences included jobs with the Tennessee Valley Authority, Atlas Chemical Company at the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant, and Erlanger Hospital. In 1968, Glenn established Wheeler Cabinet Shop, a custom cabinet and millwork business. He later renamed his business as Wheeler Mill Work and Lumber.
He was a Mason and a staunch Republican.
He was the youngest child of the late John William and Flora Blanche (Hampton) Wheeler.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Willie Blanche (Wheeler) Looney of Flintstone; John Lafayette Wheeler, Sr. of Chattanooga, and Yvonnie June (Wheeler) Blankenship of Nashville.
He is survived by his siblings, Wade H. Wheeler, Sr. of Dunlap, TN; Bernard Wheeler; and Juanita (Wheeler) Harding of Danville, Ca. Additionally, he is survived by G. Alfred Wheeler, Jr. of Rossville, and Robert V. and Lorraine Wheeler and grandson, Alexander Wheeler of Arlington, Ma. Many nephews and nieces survive Glenn as well.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Joe Brown officiating.
Interment will be at Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga. His nephews will be pallbearers.
