V-Day UTC Presents Benefit Reading Of The Vagina Monologues Feb. 23-25

  • Friday, February 17, 2017

UTC’s Women’s Action Council and Women’s Center will present a three-performance benefit reading of Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Vagina Monologues at the UTC University Center Auditorium. Performances will be Thursday and Friday, Feb. 23-24, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m.

All proceeds from tickets and donations will benefit the Partnership for Families, Children, and Adults Crisis Services and UTC’s Survivor Advocacy Services.

Last year over 5,800 V-Day benefits were held around the world raising funds and awareness towards ending violence against women. The events raised over $5 million through performances of The Vagina Monologues and A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant as part of the V-Day 2016 College and Community Campaigns.

This benefit performance is presented this year as part of V-Day’s campaign One Billions Rising: Revolution, a global initiative that began three years ago as a call for women survivors of violence to rise and demand an end to violence. In 2016, risings focus on highlighting, creating and envisioning new, brave and radical artistic initiatives to bring in the new revolutionary world of equality, dignity and freedom for all women and girls, said officials.

The Vagina Monologues, which was first performed off Broadway by Ms. Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences. Ms. Ensler has performed the play to acclaim throughout the world - from Zagreb to Santa Barbara, from London to Seattle, from Jerusalem to Oklahoma City.

Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for community members, faculty. and staff. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Groups can reserve tickets by calling 425-5605. To learn more about V-Day and its campaigns visit www.vday.org
