A Temporary Ban - And Response (4)

Open Letter to the United States Senate:

Within just two weeks of taking office, the president has undermined our alliances in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, as well as the Middle East. He has attempted to thwart the laws establishing the missions of every department in the executive branch and instead advance private financial interests of the wealthy few in violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution. He has assaulted freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the human rights with which all were endowed by our creator. He has destabilized our country and the world. He has set our country on the dark path to authoritarian oligarchy.

Therefore, I hereby propose a total and complete shutdown of all executive actions coming into the United States Senate until we can figure out what the heck is going on. This action requires 48 senators working in pairs to hold the senate floor for one hour a day until order is restored. This action is necessary in order for the senate to discharge its duty to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

Mr. Wrinn and others seem to have adopted the tactic of slinging buckets of (stuff) on the wall hoping some of it will stick. Generalized allegations with no specific claims and no facts to support baseless accusations have no merit.

Therefore, I hereby propose that all hysterical accusations henceforth and forevermore be accompanied by supporting facts in a form comprehensible by the average 9th grade Hamilton County Department of Education studii. Furthermore, all quotations shall be cited in their entirety, with context as applicable for clarity.

Didn't Hippocrates II of Cos, that ancient Greek dude, suggest several remedies for hysteria?

Isn't it rich? Isn't it queer?

Ah, Stephen Sondheim... the song was pure, unadulterated mush.

But where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns
Don't bother they're here

It's tough to beat Sarah Vaughan's artistic interpretation.

Mr. Wrinn.

I applaud your efforts here and I certainly don't want to discourage you from writing further letters to this website.  Unfortunately many of the conservative writers here aren't willing to look at this situation with a critical eye.  The responses you are likely to receive can be summed up thusly: "liberals are hysterical idiots".  And that's exactly what you received from Mr. Burrage when he insinuated you didn't even have the equivalent of a Hamilton County 9th grade education.

I voted for President Obama but I could readily admit when he did something wrong or something I didn't agree with because I put my country before my party.  Republicans who support Trump have thus far not shown that ability and it's unfortunate.

It seems that Republicans in Congress and all over the country were so desperate to regain power over our federal government that they were willing to overlook the gaffes of the most inexperienced candidate in U.S. history.  Trump lied about how the wall would be paid for and he lied about "draining the swamp".  He then proceeded to stock the government with the exact types of people he said he would rid Washington of.

Thank God for people like Lindsey Graham and John McCain even though there aren't enough like them in our government.  Here's what America has become:  Senator McCain called the Australian ambassador to apologize for the actions of the five-year-old child in charge.

The first step to fixing any problem is admitting you have a problem.  We're not going to get anywhere until we take that first step.

While I did not see an actual quote in Mr. Winn's letter, I do believe Mr. Burrage brought up an excellent point.  Whenever we, the consumers of the printed word, see an incomplete quote, or a quote taken out of context, we should take a few minutes to look it up, and time permitting, send in the complete quote as supportive material. This is most easily done in the form of a letter to the editor.

I've found that when a quote is used as a rallying cry, especially for a political party (Democrat or Republican), it deserves extra scrutiny.  No one has ever been harmed by more information and multiple sourcing.

Thanks for the letter, Mr. Mitchell.  Perhaps Mr. Burrage's comments about replying back "in a form comprehensible with an average ninth-grade Hamilton County  ..." is aimed at all the people who voted for Trump.    Perhaps that is all they can understand.  And please, Mr. Burrage, don't insult our students.  It is not cute or funny.
