The Roadrunners finished their last home game of the season strong after a 61-46 win against Blue Mountain (Miss.) on Mondaynight at Mashburn Arena.
THE FIRST HALF
The game was slow to start as each team was unable to find the back of the net for the first three minutes.
The Roadrunners would establish the first lead at 5-0 with a three by
Isaiah Box with
16:17 left. The Toppers would continue to mount a solid defense, and would go on to tie the game, 10-10 with
9:19 left. Dalton State would regain their lead with a 12- 4 run that would be capped with a three by
Mon'Darius Black to give the Roadrunners an 8-point advantage at 22-14 with
4:54 left. The Toppers would lessen the gap to 4 points, but would be unable to pass the Roadrunners as they went into the break ahead, 26-22.
THE SECOND HALF
The game continued to be close as the Roadrunners led by a small gap of 6 points at 33-27 with
16:48 left. The Toppers would continue to attack, but were unable to find their momentum as they continued to trail throughout the half. Dalton State would gain its biggest lead after a 10-0 run that was capped by a field goal from
Mon'Darius Black to give the Roadrunners a 20 point lead with
2:44 left. The Roadrunners would put in the subs and cruise to a 61-46 win.
THE REST OF THE STORY
The Roadrunners improve to 22-4 overall, 14-4 in the SSAC, for the season with the win and finishes their home season 14-2.
Isaiah Box led the team in scoring with 15 points.
Mike Harden and Mon'Darius scored 14 and 10 points respectively.
The Toppers fall to 11-12 overall, 8-10 in the SSAC for the season with the loss. Blue Mountain was led by Denio Chirindza with 12 points. Jay Howard followed with 11 points.
The Roadrunners season continues on the road as they travel to face-off against Brewton-Parker (Ga.) on Thursday, February 23 at 7:30 p.m.
