Healthy Tennessee, Volkswagen and Pro Health are partnering together to host a free health fair at the Volkswagen Conference Center on Saturday, March 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dozens of health care professionals will be available to consult with local residents and visitors about their health concerns as well as several health-focused companies and organizations will be on board to provide free health screenings, products and promotional items.
“We had a tremendous turnout for our health fair two years ago at the Brainerd Youth Center in Chattanooga, and we’re looking forward to another successful event at Volkswagen,” said Dr. Manny Sethi, president of Healthy Tennessee, and a Vanderbilt orthopedic trauma surgeon.
Some of the factors to consider about the state of health care in East Tennessee are East Tennessee residents face unique challenges such as hunger and poverty. One in six people in East Tennessee live in poverty and have difficulty meeting basic health needs. Among children in East Tennessee, one in five is at risk of going hungry each day, while the need among senior citizens continues to rise as well.
Marsha Wood, Assistant Manager of Health and Wellness at Volkswagen Group of America, said, “This is going to be a great health fair. We’re excited about the partnership with Healthy Tennessee and Pro Health, especially given their history and reputation for providing excellent health fairs across the state of Tennessee. At Volkswagen, we’ve made the health care of our employees and their families a primary mission and this event underscores our commitment.
“Chattanooga is one of those vibrant cities in Tennessee where the community works together to build a better future for their citizens and we can’t wait to return there to help Chattanooga get even healthier,” said Dr. Manny.
