Orman Norwood
Orman Lee Norwood, 85, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, went to be with his Lord on February 19, 2017.
He was born in his parents’ home in Tuscumbia, Al., on Feb. 20, 1931. On Dec. 27, 1952, he married Betty Marie Elmore of Indianapolis. He passed away at his youngest son’s home in Harrison, in his sleep after a long battle with dementia.
He is survived by his wife Betty, three children, Deborah Norwood (Michael Largent) of Ringgold, David Norwood (Catherine Hoffman) of Marietta, and Richard Norwood (Lynda Paige) of Harrison. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
As a graduate of Tennessee Temple College, Bible School, and Temple Baptist Seminary, Dr. Norwood’s lifetime of ministry included pastor, missionary, and executive working with the International Board of Jewish Missions (IBJM).
A true renaissance man, he was an artist, author of several books and countless articles, editor, evangelist, genealogist, magician, photographer, pilot, poet, preacher, radio broadcaster, recording artist, singer, songwriter, tour guide, and so much more. Although descended from royalty, he preferred the title, “good and faithful servant.” He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the thousands of lives who were touched through his lifetime of ministry.
The viewing and family reception will be held on Friday, Feb. 24, from 4-8 p.m. and from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25. Both events will be held at International Board of Jewish Missions, 1928 Hamill Road, Hixson. The body will be interred at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, 5351 Highway 153, Hixson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to IBJM.
