Lee University will welcome guest artists Holly Mulcahy and James Stephenson to the Squires Recital Hall on Wednesday, March 1, at 2:30 p.m. for a lecture, “Behind the Music of ‘Tributes.’”

Ms. Mulcahy, a distinguished violin player, and Mr. Stephenson, an American composer, will discuss Mr. Stephenson’s violin concerto “Tributes” during the presentation. Ms. Mulcahy will perform the piece on March 2 at the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra as part of the Masterworks concert series.

Ms. Mulcahy has played with multiple orchestras from Richmond to Phoenix. She has performed with the Washington National Opera Japan tour and played at Carnegie Hall with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Mulcahy has also performed at the Grand Teton Music Festival for many years in the violin section, as well as volunteering as a chamber musician during the festival.

She currently serves as concertmaster for CSO. She previously served as guest concertmaster for Columbus Symphony, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and Orchestra Iowa as an interim concertmaster.

When she is not playing the violin or working, Ms. Mulcahy resides in Oak Park, Ill., where she works on her monthly column Neo Classical, gardens, cooks, and spends time outdoors.

Mr. Stephenson is a Chicago-based composer. He has composed concertos and sonatas for various instruments and has worked on commissions for symphonies in Chicago, Boston, New York, Dallas, St. Louis, and Milwaukee, among others. Mr. Stephenson has lead orchestras in Bozeman, Charleston, Ft. Meyers, and Wyoming, in addition to numerous concert bands.

Mr. Stephenson currently serves as composer in residence for the Lake Forest Symphony in Illinois. Prior to composing, he served for 17 seasons as a trumpeter in the Naples Philharmonic in Florida.

Mr. Stephenson originally wrote the violin concerto “Tributes” for previous CSO guest artist Jennifer Frautschi as a commission for the Minnesota Orchestra.

The lecture is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. For more information about the CSO concert, visit http://chattanoogasymphony.org/event/bartok-concerto-for-orchestra/.  For more information about the “Tributes” lecture, contact Kristi Vanoy at kvanoy@leeuniversity.edu or call 614-8243.
