The City of Chattanooga’s Public Works Department is revising the policy at the City’s Refuse Collection Centers and upgrading technology to continue to provide this crucial service to citizens and to reduce improper use of the center by some landlords and contractors.
Currently, all landlords and contractors are not permitted to dispose of items at the Refuse Collection Centers - a policy which will remain in effect.
For citizens who drop off items at the Refuse Collection Centers, the new policy going into effect on March 1, will allow up to 12 trips per year instead of the current two trips per day. Currently, the identification of each person who visits the Refuse Collection Center is hand-recorded. Public Works is also upgrading to digital scanners, which will allow improved and accurate tracking and further reduce improper use of the centers.
As always, citizens will still be able to request curbside pickup of bulky items through 311 instead of having to transport those items to the Refuse Collection Centers.
