Dialogue Is Needed - And Response (2)

  • Saturday, February 25, 2017
On Feb.  24, approximately 300 citizens showed up at the downtown public library for a Town Meeting.

No elected officials attended or sent representatives. Most of the officals did send responses indicating that they were unable to attend.

I moved to Chattanooga in the 1970's.I have seen progress in improving health, education, minority relations and  environmental issues.

Our current President has proposed controversial policies that have a potential impact on the significant areas of health, education, minority relations and environmental issues.

The absence of elected officals/representives was not an encouraging sign.
Dialogue is needed.

The future quality of life in Chattanooga demands the attention of those who were elected to serve and represent the citizens.

Thank you, Ms. Rosanes, for posting a request for "dialogue" when it is so greatly needed in this country.  We believe that such "dialogue" is essential to heal the fracture following the Constitutionally-legitimate election of President Donald Trump.

But...wait.  A quick visit to your Facebook page tells us the real story: That you could not be any more to the Left if you were in the middle of the Pacific somewhere.  The anti-conservative, anti-Republican, pro-Democrat messages dominating your Facebook page immediately tells us that any kind of open dialogue with your group would have been an exercise in futility.

So, let's deal with some facts instead. Clearly, from your own page, this event was held in conjunction with the Obama/Democrat Party  "Organizing for Action" and Moveon which have received personal encouragement from Obama to disrupt conservatives, town halls, and their agenda at every opportunity.

Let's also add to this motley mix the brand new "Indivisible" organization, dedicated to the anti-Trump movement.  As the Washington Times, reports: "Indivisible is a group of progressive activists who are showing up at Republican town halls across the country with the purpose of wreaking havoc."

Beyond just being "organized," the new "Indivisible" group comes complete with a "Practical Guide For Resisting the Trump Agenda," and specifics on how to target MOCs (Members of Congress) with your organizations.

Advice like:

"Manage the meeting: Keep people focused on the ultimate core strategy: applying pressure to your MoC to stop Trump. Other attendees may have other ideas — or may be coming to share their concerns about Trump — and it’s important to affirm their concerns and feelings. But it’s also important to redirect that energy and make sure that the conversation stays focused on developing a group and a plan of action dedicated to this strategy."

Many members of congress have already found themselves attacked by these groups, Ms. Rosanes. Your protesters already have a lengthy list of youtube videos highlighting the outrageous, totally uncivilized behavior of Democrats jeering and shutting down Town Halls. Of shouting when the Opening Prayer was being recited. Jeering when the Pledge of Allegiance was introduced. Throwing papers at representatives. Demonstrating a total lack of respect and civility toward their representatives and others attending those meetings.

So, again, please accept our sincere apology for not attending your special "open forum" and seeking "dialogue" with your group.
But the fact is that we both know there would not have been any useful dialogue at that meeting. Instead, it would have been just another Democrat Party hit job seeking media coverage.

Ms. Rosanes:

Congratulations on organizing the event at the public library. I did not attend, but along with the majority of Americans and Chattanoogans, I am on your side. Our elected officials, Republicans and Democrats, ignore you at their own peril.

I am sure you are terribly disappointed that Mya Lane declined to attend, but hers reads like the organized rapid response of a paid alt-right troll, so take it for what it is worth. After witnessing Donald J. Trump conduct the most crass and uncivilized presidential campaign in American history, not to mention the enormous spike in hate crimes (right wing extremist terrorism) Trump has clearly incited, I find Mya Lane’s demand for “respect and civility” void of any moral authority whatsoever. I, for one, still believe in democracy.

Keep up the good work.
