  • Saturday, February 25, 2017
The Covenant men's golf team finished third at its Reeder Cup on Saturday and freshman Nathan Hawkins placed second overall in the event held at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club.

Sewanee, ranked No. 22 by GolfStat and No. 24 by the Golf Coaches Association of America, won the tournament with a two-day score of 645 (315-330). Bob Jones was second at 655 (325-330) and Covenant was third with 667 (323-344). Bryan finished fourth with a score of 672 (323-349).

Sewanee's Tommy Oliver was the medalist with his two-day score of 157 (77-80), while Hawkins was second, just two strokes back, at 159 (76-83).
Bob Jones' Kyle Olenchuk (160; 79-81) was third and a three-way tie for fourth with Bryan's Lucas Coffelt along with Sewanee duo Taylor Mottern and Alex Wedding at 161.

Saturday featured windy conditions and cooler temperatures compared to Friday's first round and the scores were drastically higher because of it. All four teams posted scores at least 15 strokes higher in round two than in round one.

Hawkins was able to persevere through the weather to post an 83 for the day and collect his highest collegiate finish. Marshall Kent placed 10th overall with a 165 (84-81) after improving by three strokes in Saturday's round. Alan Craig and Josh Wall, playing as an individual, were both tied for 11th at 166 as both carded 87s in round two.
