The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s track team finished seventh at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships at the Mountain States Health Alliance Center.
“Overall we had very good performances and several PRs for our young team,” Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. “We have a long way to go but we have a strong freshman group that showed promise this weekend.”
Freshman Kennedy Thomson (Catharine’s, Ontario) just missed all-conference and all-freshman team honors with a fourth place finish in the 800 meter finals.
She covered the middle distance race in a time of 2:17.79.
“Kennedy was seventh with 200 to go,” Meyer said. “She charged hard at the end but just ran out of track. She was very disappointed. She will use this as motivation this spring.”
Freshman Rebekah Wich (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) posted her blasted through her previous best in the 5000 meter and was the first Chattanooga runner across the line at 18:46.32. She was followed by fellow freshman Hannah Caldwell (Brentwood, Tenn.) at 19:08.54 and senior Anna Kate Chance (Columbia, Tenn.) who battled illness on Day One, finished with a time of 19:06.30.
“Rebekah did great,” Meyer said. “Each race this year she’s got closer and closer to Anna Kate and finally beat her. As for Hannah, this was her first 5K and she competed hard.”
The all-freshman women’s 4x400 meter relay finished eighth with a time of 4:05.98.
The Mocs will open the Outdoor track season on March 11 at the Jacksonville State Gamecock Opener in Jacksonville, Ala.
