The 13th Annual Friends of Scouting Luncheon will take place at the Chattanooga Convention Center on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. The annual event helps the Council provide year-round programs, camps and services to over 6,000 youth and adults in the Greater Chattanooga Area. The event brings over 600 business and community leaders together to support Scouting’s programming.

Dan Clark is the guest speaker at Tuesday’s event. Life Scout Mr. Clark is the primary contributing author to the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and the author of 31 books. Named one of the Top Ten Speakers in the world, Mr. Clark is a gold-record songwriter/recording artist, New York Times Best Seller, celebrated philanthropist, inductee of National Speaking Hall of Fame, and was a world-class athlete in his day.

Mr. Clark’s life includes soaring to the edge of space in a U2 Spy Plane; flying fighter jets with the Air Force Thunderbirds; racing automobiles at Nürburgring and dogsleds in the Arctic; serving on the Olympic Committee and carrying the Olympic Torch in the 2002 Winter Games; and serving on the International Board of Governors of Operation Smile.

Mr. Clark is very active in Scouting, guiding his own son to achieve the rank of Eagle. Mr. Clark is also Woodbadge Trained and has served on the faculty staff of a Woodbadge Course. He wholeheartedly believes that Scouting has shaped him as a person and contributed greatly to his achievements and success, and that today’s youth can greatly benefit from the character building life lessons Scouting has to offer.
