The Lee softball team finished the Southern Softball Showdown at 2-2 after falling to host Columbus State on Sunday evening, 10-7.
The Lady Flames are now 4-2 overall on the year and will welcome Tennessee Wesleyan to Butler Field for a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m.
LEE 7 COLUMBUS STATE 10
The Cougars jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back in handing the Lady Flames a 10-7 loss to wrap up a weekend full of softball action between schools from the Gulf South Conference, Peach Belt and Sunshine State.
Trailing 9-2 the Lady Flames climbed back into the contest with a five-run fifth inning.
Abby McKinney delivered a run scoring double while Bailey Church crushed a three-run home run to cap the big offensive inning.
Lee would see the comeback effort fall short however. McKinney (2-1) was tagged with her first loss of the year in the circle lasting just 2 2/3 innings while giving up six runs. Hailey Clark pitched 2 1/3 and gave up three runs and Leigh Beatenbough finished the two innings surrendering one run.
Savannah Turvey hit a three-run homer in the third and finished with four RBI to lead Columbus State. Elizabeth Perdue had three hits and home run and three RBI while Calli Starr also had three hits.
Peyton Sorrells (2-0) earned the win for the Cougars. She allowed four runs in four innings.Darby Damarest recored the save working 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
LEE 8 MONTEVALLO 4
Brooklynn Frazier hit a two-run homer and AnnaBeth Pruett jump started a six-run rally to help give the Lee softball team an 8-4 victory over Montevallo in Lee's first game Sunday at the Softball Showdown.
After a scoreless battle through the first three innings, Frazier broke the drought with a two-run blast left field to give the Lady Flames an early 2-0 lead. The freshman finished with three RBI.
The Falcons answered back with a four-run fifth inning. Haley Barnette started things with an RBI single. A Lee fielding error allowed the second run to score before Brianna Stella drilled a two-run double to complete the rally.
The seesaw battle would see the Lady Flames answer in the home half of fifth with six runs to put the game away. Pruett's double would be the only hit that scored runs in the inning however. Lee benefited from error, sacrifice fly, a walk and two wild pitches to score the final four runs.
Leigh Beatenbough (1-1) was the winner for the Lady Flames. She worked five innings and allowed four runs on six hits. Freshman Taylor Moran tossed the final two innings and did not allow run while striking out two.
Jocelyn Rivera (1-3) pitched four-plus innings for Montevallo allowing seven runs (five earned) on three hits. She walked four and gave up just three hits. AnnaMarie McGlone and Abbey Pratt tossed the final two innings in relief. McGlone allowed one unearned run.
Lee is now a perfect 3-0 against the Falcons after having swept a doubleheader from them last Wednesday at Butler Field to open up the season.
